The Information Commissioner’s Office has launched a dedicated advice line to help small-businesses and charities prepare for the imminent arrival of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The launch of the service recognises the issues facing such organisations as they plan for GDPR. The helpline has already proved popular, with over 100 calls reported on the opening day – Wednesday, 1st November 2017.
GDPR replaces the current Data Protection Act and comes into force on 25 May 2018. It strengthens the rules around personal data and requires organisations to be more accountable and transparent. It also gives individuals greater control over their own personal data. At the same time, it presents businesses and charities a unique opportunity to showcase their commitment to, and respect for, the privacy of their customers and supporters.
The ICO helpline number is 0303 123 1113.
If your organisation requires help to understand and implement the changes required by the GDPR, then please contact Mark Roberts or Keith Arrowsmith on 0161 826 1266. We’d be more than happy to assist.
