Jerry Knight-Smith

Trainee Solicitor

Jerry’s work sat squarely in the performing arts sector up until the pandemic when he decided to fulfil a long-held ambition to become a lawyer. He recently trained at Manchester Law School and is delighted now to be able to blend his passions for arts and law by joining Counterculture.

Before joining he spend 25 years at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre where he was Head of Casting and an Associate Director. Everything from musicals in the round to significant new plays, touring work to costume drama; he has ushered many hundreds of actors into work in Manchester. During this time, he also enjoyed casting for several other theatres and producers across the UK, in particular as a creative associate for English Touring Theatre.

With very much a project management mindset he started in theatre production as a stage manager in the late 80s working in Chichester, the West End, National Theatre, Sheffield Theatres and more.
