Nayia is an experienced curator, project manager and arts consultant with more than 20 years of work in the arts in the UK and abroad. She has commissioned artists, mentored curators, curated numerous exhibitions and developed research facilities for visual arts organisations. Since 2005 Nayia works as Curator and Head of Curatorial Studies at the Whitechapel Gallery where she has developed an internationally acclaimed programme of research exhibitions. An experienced project manager, she devised the NEON Curatorial Exchange & Award in 2011, which she still continues to run. This is an important initiative which fosters professional relationships for emerging curators, funded by NEON Organization for Culture, Greece and delivered by Whitechapel Gallery. In 2016 -2017 Nayia co-directed the Athens Biennale where she developed new internal systems for the benefit of the organisation. She conceived a number of successful exhibitions and commissions, including John Latham: Anarchive (2010), Rothko in Britain (2012), Staging Jackson Pollock (2018) and Queer Spaces: London, 1980s – Today (2019).
