Sam is an experienced solicitor specialising in employment law, and charity and organisational development, advising organisations and individuals in the arts, cultural, education, and public sectors. Sam has experience acting for a full range of clients, ranging from international companies, SMEs, national and local charities, and individuals, Sam has also worked in-house for one of the UK’s leading universities and has experience of both litigation and employment policy work.

Sam leads our full employment law service at Counterculture, advising on all of aspects of the employment relationship and organisational structure, including:

– contract and policy review;
– settlement agreements;
– handling all stages of employment litigation, including negotiations through ACAS;
– auditing correct application of employee, worker, or self-employed status;
– changing terms and conditions;
– restructures
– corporate/merger support; and
– ad-hoc queries.

Sam also assists the governance and charity legal team, and has particular knowledge and experience within our education and local authority practice. This combines his legal skills with the practical knowledge gained through his significant leadership and governance roles in the sector.

Sam has served on various boards and in advisory positions including for University of Liverpool, University of Law, NUS Services Limited, and Salford City College Group and is able to bring his legal knowledge to a variety of governance and commercial environments.

Outside work, Sam recently served as a Councillor, elected to represent his local area and as a Social Mobility Ambassador for the Law Society.
