Alex is an author and academic writing about music, art and design. His writing has appeared in books published by Thames and Hudson and Flammarion, in catalogues for exhibitions at the Pompidou, Vitra and Tate, and Alex has given talks at the ICA, Royal College of Art, Design Academy Eindhoven and the Van Eyck Academy.
In 2023 Alex’s first book on music “Tainted Love: from Nina Simone to Kendrick Lamar” was published by Sternberg press and launched at the Whitechapel Gallery. “Jazz Fusions: From Alice Coltrane to Moor Mother” follows in 2024.
In 2005 Tate released Alex’s first book, “DesignArt”, followed two years later by “Design and Art” published by the Whitechapel Gallery in partnership with MIT Press as part of their Documents of Contemporary Art series. Reviews of these books appeared in The New York Times and the TLS. With the release of “The Transdisciplinary Studio” in 2012, Alex was appointed as a Professor in the School of Arts & Humanities at the University of Huddersfield, followed by his current position as Visiting Professor at the 92nd Street Y in New York.
