Darrell joined Counterculture as an Associate in 2021. From 2015 to 2021 he was Chief Operating Officer for the Edinburgh Science group, responsible for a growing portfolio of science festivals and education projects in the UK and overseas in the UAE and KSA.

Darrell was Executive Director at Macrobert Arts Centre at The University of Stirling with responsibility for running two theatres, cinemas, a visual arts space, café bar and restaurant. He moved to Scotland in 2005 to be Head of Sales and Marketing at Capital Theatres, running the King’s and Festival Theatres in Edinburgh. Before moving to Edinburgh, Darrell was Group Marketing Manager for BBC Worldwide running the marketing, communication and sales campaigns for large scale consumer events and exhibitions in London and Birmingham. This involved developing brand strategies, marketing plans and promotional campaigns for BBC consumer exhibitions – BBC Gardeners’ World Live, BBC Good Food Show, Festive BBC Good Food Show, BBC Good Homes Show and BBC DIY Show.

Darrell has also worked for Brand Events, Shared Experience Theatre, the Oxford Playhouse, Reading Borough Council (Theatres & Museums) and as a freelance publicist. He has taught on the British Council’s UAE Festival Academy in Dubai and at the University of Edinburgh Business School (International Public Management). He sits on the board of two Creative Scotland funded arts organisations, Curious Seed and Visible Fictions.
