
Gerald is an expert in arts management and administration and has been at the forefront of cultural and creative industry projects in Asia, the Middle East and across Europe. He has taught Arts and Cultural Management in over 20 countries and co-founded three MAs. His expertise has been sought by UK Parliament for several publications and the Select Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Gerald is the founder of and has directed the Institute of Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE), the MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy and MA in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship programmes at Goldsmiths University, London. He has tutored twelve PHDs to completion and has been an external examiner for three universities. For the duration of three years, he was also responsible for an MA in Creative and Cultural Industries at the Men’s Technical College Abu Dhabi UAE.
For the British Council and other agencies, he has taught Arts Management training courses and seminars in Arts Marketing, Arts Education, Fundraising, Copyright and Strategic Planning, in Russia, France, East Jerusalem, Korea, Philippines, Cyprus, Slovakia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Bulgaria, Belgium, Australia, Viet Nam, Egypt, Romania, Ukraine, India, UAE, Trinidad, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Qatar and Ukraine. He also worked for fourteen years on behalf of The Ministry of Culture and Information in Viet Nam establishing Arts Management education in Hanoi University of Culture, funded by the Ford Foundation. Gerald was the Director of Creative Spark in Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan for 5 years, a British Council partnership.
Gerald has Dr. Honoris Causa from three universities: Uzbekistan State Institute of Art and Culture, Hanoi University of Culture and the National Culture Medal and Vysoka Skola Muzickych Umeni v Bratislave , Slovakia.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and has the Freedom of the City of London.
