Jo has over 25 years of senior management experience within the cultural, design and architecture sectors, and most recently on capital projects, where she is an experienced Project Director having overseen the programme and delivery of the new Tate Modern, and before that the expanded Whitechapel Gallery.
Having trained as an artist and formed a successful band in Leeds, in 1982 she became an Account Executive and Assistant to the Managing Director of Stonehouse Advertising, a multi-disciplinary brand and advertising agency. She moved from there to take on the role of Senior Executive Assistant to the Managing Director of Fitch & Company, a large design and architecture consultancy in London.
Following this, Jo has continued to work in executive administration, governance and in project/programme management within both the private and public sector, including time at the ICA, the Serpentine Gallery and the Design Museum. She then joined the Whitechapel Gallery to work alongside the Director in delivering the extension into the old Whitechapel Library building.
In 2009 Jo joined the Tate to work on the Tate Modern Project, providing client programme and project management, and she became Delivery Director in 2014, and then Director of Capital Projects in 2016, and she continues to work at Tate part-time on projects in London and Liverpool.
Jo brings a vast wealth of project experience and construction knowledge to the Counterculture team and works with us and clients both nationally and internationally on a variety of building projects within the arts.
