Matt has over twenty years of experience in fundraising, strategy, and senior leadership in museums and social impact organisations. He offers strategic advice on fundraising, capital projects, major donor approaches, campaign planning, business models and working with trustee boards and external partnerships.
He has a particular interest in major capital developments and the organisational shift this often entails. This can be both electrifying and challenging for organisations. Through the lens of fundraising Matt supports organisations in gearing up for this change, with an emphasis on establishing clarity, confidence and credibility.
As Director of Development at the Museum of London, Matt led the campaign for the new London Museum – one of the largest and most complex cultural projects in the UK. As an independent consultant he has supported organisations including National Maritime Museum, Birmingham Museums Trust, The Box, Hastings Contemporary, and Carmarthenshire CC. Throughout much of 2023 he also worked extensively on the development of a major new initiative and capital project to create The National Poetry Centre in Leeds. He is a director of Embrace Finance, an organisation working to increase financial confidence in charity leaders, and a trustee of Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS). Before a career in fundraising and organisational strategy, Matt established a travel company in Amsterdam specialising in Russia, Ukraine and the Baltic States. He holds an MA in Contemporary History and Politics from Birkbeck College and a BA in Russian Studies and Philosophy from University of Leeds.
