Counterculture Partnership LLP is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Whitmill as a partner at the firm.
Richard is a Fellow of the Chartered Governance Institute UK and Ireland with over 16 years of dedicated experience within the charity and not-for-profit sector. His background spans roles as a trustee, volunteer, and employee, covering local charity support, funding, and asset-based community development.
Richard was awarded The John Phillips Memorial Prize for the Chartered Governance Qualifying Programme – recognising him as the top-performing finalist of the 2024/25 academic year.
On the appointment James Coe, head of higher education and senior partner, said that “Richard is recognised as a governance expert across the charity sector. His diligence has been recognised in the award he has won, the feedback clients have given, and his growing reputation as a leader in governance. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with him again.”
The appointment of Richard ensures the team can continue to offer high quality support in governance reviews, strategic advice, risk management, company and charity registration. It also means Counterculture is able to expand its company secretarial offer, providing retained and interim governance support to ensure the efficient, effective and compliant running of board governance. The wider Counterculture team now includes four Chartered Governance Professionals.
Before joining Counterculture, Richard served as Governance Business Partner at the National Union of Students where he supported the board and led major changes to the Union’s democracy and governance. He also acts as board secretary to a range of clients. Richard’s work through Counterculture also includes charity and company registrations, governance reviews and advice on risk management.
This combination of in-house knowledge, technical expertise and an external perspective means Richard is well placed to advise clients on a range of governance matters and their practical application.
On his appointment Richard said “I have been a long-time admirer of Counterculture’s, and I am excited to join their expanding education team. I’m looking forward to developing my own practice and leading Counterculture’s company secretarial work.”
