The UK’s Fundraising Regulator has added new requirements to the Code of Fundraising Practice in preparation for the launch of the Fundraising Preference Service (FPS) on 6 July 2017. Those organisations that have paid the levy or have agreed to abide by the code should review these new requirements urgently.
The FPS will enable members of the public to request that any specific charity registered in England and Wales, or a higher education institution that is an exempt charity, end direct marketing communications with them.
Individuals will be able to identify the charities that they do not wish to receive communications from and choose the specific forms of communication that they wish to stop (emails, telephone calls, addressed post and text messages). Requests will be submitted via either the FPS online portal or telephone helpline administered by the FR.
We recommend that affected organisations consider how to make sure that their mailing lists do not include anyone who has made a request to the FPS.
